Although he is APHA registered as Dominant Decoy, Cooper was given the name Sweet Escape by his former owner after he pushed his pasture fence down and showed up at the kitchen window! Joanne has now owned Cooper for 16 years. She found him through a Craigslist ad and knew he was the one after only 5 minutes of trying him. Joanne's daughters, Delaney and Ella, have had much success with Cooper on the local circuit, bringing home many wins and top 10 finishes in hunt seat and dressage at the New York State Fair. In Delaney's final 4H year, back when classes regularly reached 30-60 horses, they won the pleasure class. Then Ella won that same class just a couple years later. Cooper was also named Hunter Horse of the Year three or four times in the South Towns Summer Series shows that were run by Longacres Camp. After the girls outgrew him, he continued to show and win with a couple more kids, always taking care of whoever rode him. Joanne says he is a real live unicorn!
Cooper had EOTRH so he had to have all of his incisors removed a couple years ago. He showed off his signature tongue out pose throughout his portrait session. He was one of my favorite black background sessions of 2025, not only for his adorable expressions, but he also stood wonderfully and looked happy and alert the entire time. Many horses get a little impatient or bored at being made to stand and pose, but Cooper was thoroughly enjoying all of the attention. He loves to be around people and give full tongue kisses on your face!
